Final decision on logo set.

Because of the lack of elegance in the word balls, the feeling of the title have to be ruthless, straight forward, and mean, so i took calligraphy brush style out and focus on sans serifs. The logo is hexagon because that is the shape of the cage. To maintain the "break" concept i made cracks on the logo as well. It is the 2nd event from the organizer and intended to be Balls to Brawl 2, but I was allowed to play with the type and made it Balls 2 Brawl.

Final products for posters.

First few tries with the cracks. Because I was not prepared for it, the feeling of stroke is lost. Struggled betweed keeping the stroke, or just erase them to make the background black.

Due to time issue, its impossible to imitate Alex Marcou's style, so I went ahead and use glass crack photos and match the direction of crack with the movement of the models.

Originals sketches of the 4 posters. Have shapes of movement at first but later scraped due to uneven strokes and not achieving Alexis Marcou's style.

Some are meant to be teaser posters. so they leave almost no space and only sole focus to the person inside the photo.

Dummy sketch ._.

Frostbite logo is kinda cool and "break-ish" due. Its a game engine where the virtual world can be destroyed, you can destroy the building, make a hole in the ground, sink the subway system, break the wall etc etc, hence they use the break. Its a cool idea.

Work so far:
Coming up with core idea of the whole campaign design which is "Breaking limit" using break as the core and cracks to express smashing the barrier, very athlete-ish and yet inviting.

Meant to be Breaking (your) limit.

Still working on whether shud I go for brush style fro the title like Street fighter and Tekken (Fighting video game) but somehow going against the core idea of "break".

Yoji Shinkawa's brush style.

Alexis Marcou have rather interesting style that I'm interested do explore in. The lines are not exactly random and contribute in extreme and movement, theres a lot of expression but the details are not lost.

Japanese Manga Artist Boichi sparked the idea of playing between the borderline of painting and manga.
Manga style are not really applicable in all area but photography are widely acceptable because we are not living in Japan where the power of anime are strong. The details of his drawing and live sketching from photograph is something to take note off.

Initial Artist that inspires me.
Florian Nicolle. Expressive mix media.
Rather "calm" and very good for expressing portraits, but not onto the masculine, movement and spirit.

PreConvergence & Divergence Project

Project: Amateur Mix Martial Art Competition Event Design

Mix Martial Art (MMA) is nothing new as a combat sport that consist various mixed style of martial art. It is long held in the west, but only landed in Malaysia recently (2013). A famous MMA event well known by the rest of the world named Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). The reason of doing this project is due to field of interest and also the chances to practice my preferred art direction which is more masculine, pleasing specific target audience.

The Ammateur Mix Martial Art Competition are held by students for students not just from their own college but also spread across the state. My job as a designer is to come up with unique and design solution to spark the interest to participate be it unexperienced, amateur, or athlete. The nood and core idea have to be "inviting" and contribute positivity of martial instead of "expect a fight show" and violence as portrayed in wrestling posters and advertisement.

The initial sketches/ ideation of logos. Scrapped because it was not heading to the direction I wanted because they are drifting away from the "inviting mood" and also art direction.
